James Hart

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

James recently completed his PhD in Philosophy at the Universities of Reading and Southampton with funding from the South, West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. His thesis focused on moral aggregation and the distribution of harms and benefits. It develops and defends the position that sometimes we ought to save the few instead of the many.

At Ethox he works primarily with Mark Sheehan and Sapfo Lignou on the ethics of allocating healthcare resources. In particular, he is interested in how health inequalities ought to be included and weighed in commissioning decisions, and the role of public involvement in decision-making. He has also been working closely with NHS policymakers in the Southeast to help develop an ethical framework for regional decision-making.
