We aim to facilitate the access and use of data from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) to allow researchers to conduct high quality primary care research.

Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRDdata are sourced from a UK-wide network of over 2,000 primary care practices and include 60 million patients of which 16 million are currently registered active patients, with at least 20 years of follow-up for 25% of the patients.  The anonymised patient data is broadly representative of the UK general population in terms of age, sex and ethnicity, and offers a rich source of health data for research.  It covers patient records such as symptoms, diagnoses, clinical measures, test results, immunisations, prescriptions and referrals to secondary care.

The primary care data can be linked to secondary care and other health and area-based datasets, such as the death registration data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), Hospital Episodes Statistics (HES) data from NHS England and cancer registration data from Public Health England (PHE).

CPRD primary care data is available to members of Oxford Population Health via the department's CPRD team.

The CPRD team aims to facilitate the use of CPRD data within the department, providing advice, guidance and access to the data for those wishing to use this resource.

Aden Kwok, our departmental fob-holder provides access to all data for approved projects. He is a key source of knowledge and offers guidance on many aspects of the process, including study design, data queries, and procedural advice.
