Jimmy D Bell BSc PhD
Professor of Human Metabolism
Director of Research Centre for Optimal Health
University of Westminster
Professor Jimmy D Bell studied Biochemistry at the University of Warwick. He obtained his PhD in 1987 from the University of London and was until recently a Group Head and Professor at MRC Clinical Sciences Centre, Hammersmith Hospital (Imperial College London). He recently moved to the University of Westminster to set up the Research Centre for Optimal Health where he was appointed as Director.
Professor Bell has a wide interest in body fat (adipose tissue and ectopic fat) and the environmental and genetic factors that determine deposition, distribution and its impact on health. The main goal of his research program is the integration of biochemical, molecular biology and MR techniques to define the influence(s) of candidate genes and specific environmental factors on optimal health and chronic diseases, particularly those associated with adipose tissue metabolism and function.
Professor Bell is an active member of several EU consortium focused on obesity and diabetes, as well as member of the UK Biobank enhanced phenotyping working group.
