Margarida Bica
DPhil Student
Margarida joined the Sustainable Food, Diet and Non-Communicable Disease Prevention Group as a DPhil student in 2022. Her DPhil is supported by the Oxford Population Health and St Cross College Joint Scholarship.
Margarida’s research focuses on nutrient profile models for nutrition policies, with a focus on front-of-pack labelling. Margarida is supervised by Professor Mike Rayner, Dr Asha Kaur and Dr Jessica Renzella.
Before joining Oxford Population Health, Margarida completed a Master of Public Health at NOVA University Lisbon and a Bachelor in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Porto, in Portugal. Prior to her doctoral studies, Margarida worked at the Portuguese Directorate-General of Health on the EU Best-ReMaP Joint Action project.
Margarida’s work focussed on reducing the marketing of unhealthy food to children. Margarida is also a consultant for the WHO European Office for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases.
Margarida’s research interests include public health policymaking and population approaches for healthy eating promotion and noncommunicable disease prevention.
