Filipa Landeiro

Senior Researcher

Filipa Landeiro joined the Health Economics Research Centre in January 2012 to undertake a DPhil in Public Health, investigating the impact of social isolation on delayed discharges of older hip fracture patients, and the associated costs for the National Health Service in the United Kingdom and in Portugal. She also holds a Master’s degree in Social Gerontology from the Universitat de Barcelona, a MA in Economic Development from the University of Leicester and a BA(Hons) in Economics from Lancaster University.

Filipa’s main research interest is the health economics of old age. She is currently working on the Real world Outcomes across the Alzheimer’s Disease spectrum for better care: Multi-modal data Access Platform (ROADMAP project) conducting systematic reviews on: economic models for dementia, quality of life of people with pre-dementia or dementia, and resources used and costs incurred by people with pre-dementia or dementia. She is also involved in the development of the specifications for a future economic model for Alzheimer’s disease and in the “mapping” of disease specific instruments to generate health state values. Filipa is also working on the Fracture Free project, estimating health and social care costs for hip fracture patients. And she continues to research topics addressed in her DPhil: the effects of interventions aiming to alleviate social isolation and loneliness in later life, and delayed discharges of older patients from acute hospitals 

Filipa also works for the Oxford School of Public Health, coordinating and supervising the placements of public health registrars and of foundation doctors in their public health rotations. She acts as academic rep at the Annual Review of Competence Progression panel for the School.

Additionally, Filipa implemented a peer support network for DPhil and MSc students in the Nuffield Department of Population Health and she acts as a trained peer supporter.
