IT Infrastructure Manager
Dave Ewart joined the Cancer Epidemiology Unit in 1993 as a statistician after achieving an MSc in Statistics with Applications in Medicine (University of Southampton, 1993, Distinction) and a BSc in Mathematical Statistics and Operational Research (University of Exeter, 1992, First Class). However after five years, he changed disciplines and became responsible for our computing and network systems, including infrastructure, telecommunications, desktop and server systems, ongoing development/strategy, information security and storage. Dave's particular area of expertise is enterprise networking and he achieved a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) qualification in 2009; he also has interests in server virtualisation (VMware) and open source software, such as Debian GNU/Linux where is a contributor and package maintainer. He can also write code in a variety of languages, but prefers Perl and shell scripts.
When he's not working, Dave is a keen chess player, a firm proponent of electoral reform, and a general-purpose geek.
