Angeline Lee

Angeline is a specialty registrar in anaesthetics and pain medicine undertaking a DPhil at the Big Data Institute, supported by a scholarship from Oxford Population Health.

Her research, which is supervised by Dr Anya Topiwala and Professor Ben Seymour, aims to explore the complex relationship between lifestyle factors and brain health in chronic pain patients. This work will involve a multimodality study of neuroimaging, clinical, and genomic data from the UK Biobank and qualitative data from chronic pain patients and clinicians. 

Angeline’s research interests are inspired by her clinical work helping patients to cope with chronic pain. Chronic pain affects up to one in three adults in the United Kingdom and leads to significant problems for patients, their friends and families, and the wider community.

A greater understanding of how lifestyle choices impact on physical and mental health and patient experience may give us valuable insights into the pathophysiology of chronic pain and identify novel targets for pain prevention and management. 

Angeline studied medicine at the University of Bristol and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA). She worked on a variety of award-winning research and quality improvement projects as an academic foundation doctor and an NIHR academic clinical fellow and completed a postgraduate diploma in healthcare research at the University of Oxford.

She is a trainee improvement fellow for Health Education Thames Valley, working on improving clinical teaching programmes for junior doctors.
