DPhil Student

Andres joined the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU) for his DPhil in October 2018. His research interests include maternal-perinatal epidemiology, with a particular focus on preterm birth and its sequelae. For his DPhil thesis, Andres will examine the neurodevelopmental trajectories of children born extremely preterm. His doctoral research is supported by the Clarendon Fund, the Green Templeton College-Clarendon Fund Award, and a scholarship from the Nuffield Department of Population Heath.

Andres trained in clinical medicine (first class honours) at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) in Peru. After completing his clinical training, Andres pursued a career in population health research, obtaining an MSc in Epidemiology from UPCH, and an MSc in Demography & Health (with distinction) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Andres has over eight years of research experience in maternal-perinatal health and other poverty-related health conditions in Peru and Africa, and has worked as an epidemiologist and data analyst as part of research groups in Peru, the US, and the UK. In addition to his involvement in research, Andres has served as a postgraduate lecturer in research methodology at UPCH for five years, and has been actively involved in editorial and peer review duties for several peer-reviewed scientific journals.
