Media monitoring is a function carried out by larger organisations who wish to track items in the news which refer to their organisation. Of late, media monitoring organisations are increasingly finding that a large number of their sources are online news articles. These articles similar to paper based articles must be sourced and archived for future purposes. Tools to assist with this can lead to improved productivity. This research presents the results of a prototype media monitoring tool which crawls the web for search terms, retrieves all relevant documents, archives them and presents search trends in a graphical manner. © 2005 IEEE.
