Michael Holmes is a pharmaceutical physician, epidemiologist and Associate Professor at the Medical Research Council Population Health Research Unit at the University of Oxford. His work focuses on using human genetics to elucidate the potential causes of vascular and metabolic disease. In this seminar, Michael will describe applications of human genetics to shedding light on the aetiological architecture of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of global mortality. The seminar will contrast conventional phenotype-based Mendelian randomization to that focusing on evaluating the potential role of therapeutic targets for the treatment and prevention of disease.
