Festival of Global Health - El Susto

This event will include a screening of El Susto, followed by a panel discussion and a social event.

El Susto charts Big Soda’s insidious infiltration into Mexican society as courageous public health advocates, medical professionals and community members fight for the well-being of a nation. 

“As eye-opening as it is galvanizing, El Susto uncovers the powerful beverage industry’s outsized influence across the country, its access driven by deep political ties, aggressive marketing campaigns and gross abuse of power. Featuring families devastated by Type 2 Diabetes for generations; healthcare workers embedded in affected communities; leading public health advocates; and even a former Coca-Cola marketing executive."

The film was reviewed in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Panel discussion

The panel discussion, moderated by Dr Toral Gathani, included Karen Akins (film director), Hannah Forde (Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences), and Dr Diego Aguilar Ramirez (OxPop).
