Principal investigator - Dr Daniel Swinson

Plain language summary – This study aims to look at the differences in the rate of chemotherapy given to patients with advanced bowel cancer who cannot be cured but can be treated (also known as palliative chemotherapy which is most commonly given to patients whose cancer has spread to other organs). At present, there is no data available to researchers to tell them what the rate of variation is, so they will use the data that is available to look at whether a patient receives major surgery, surgery for liver metastases (which is cancer that has spread to the liver) and the first line chemotherapy choice. This will enable the researchers to understand whether there are differences in treatment across the Yorkshire region, what the differences are and then compare this with the rest of England.
