Saskia Proud

DPhil Student

Saskia joined the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit (IDEU) in 2023 as a DPhil student. Her work involves investigating the impact of genetic variability of non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae on their ability to cause childhood pneumonia. She is supervised by Professor Angela Brueggemann and Professor Brian Angus.

Prior to her DPhil, Saskia completed a BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Southampton, with a Year in Industry within the Genomics of Rare and Emerging Human Pathogens Group at the UKHSA. Working with a range of viral and bacterial pathogens; developing and optimising methods. She also took part in large scale SARS-CoV-2 sequencing through the Covid-19 Genomics (COG) UK Consortium.
