Matt joined the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit (IDEU) in October 2025 as a DPhil student in Population Health. His research explores the use of vaccines as a tool for reducing the burden of antimicrobial resistant infections, with a particular focus on the impact of the UK respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination programme on antibiotic use.

Matt’s research is supported jointly by a Medical Sciences Graduate School Studentship and a Weston Earth Scholarship at Merton College. He is supervised by Professor Angela Brueggemann, Professor Merryn Voysey, Dr Raph Goldacre and Dr Leon Peto.

Matt is a medical doctor and a specialist registrar in public health medicine in Thames Valley. He has worked across the UK healthcare system, including with UKHSA Immunisation and Vaccine Preventable Diseases, NHS England, and Buckinghamshire Council. He holds an MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology from the University of Oxford and an MBChB (Hons) from the University of Leicester.
