Development of a new measure to assess self-management in people with type 2 diabetes using web-based or mobile technology

Computer based self-management services, such as mobile applications and web-based portals, can be an important source of information and support for people with type 2 diabetes. The aim of this study is to develop a questionnaire to assess self-management in people with type 2 diabetes which is suitable for use in technology-based interventions. We have carried out qualitative interviews to understand how people with type 2 diabetes use web or mobile technology to support the management of their health. Questionnaire items have been developed and tested to establish understanding and acceptability of the items among people living with type 2 diabetes, experts and patient public representatives. Following the refinement of the questionnaire items, psychometric evaluation of the items will take place in early 2019.
