Charli Colegate
BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD
Senior Teaching & Research Fellow
Charli Colegate is a Senior Teaching and Research Fellow at Oxford Population Health and is the associate course director for the department's MPH in Public Health Research.
Prior to joining the department, Charli was Lead Public Health Researcher in the London Borough of Camden's Health & Wellbeing team. Charli's teaching draws on this experience to help students' connect academic concepts and approaches with the complexities of public health in-practice, to enable the development of skills and knowledge which can be applied in a variety of settings to address real-world challenges. Charli has experience teaching trainee and practicing healthcare professionals via teaching roles at the University of Sheffield and voluntary work for a women’s health charity. Charli has also taught students on the Global Health & Social Medicine undergraduate programme at King’s College London.
Before undertaking a PhD, Charli worked for the Wellcome Trust in their Humanities & Social Sciences funding division and at the Health Foundation on a portfolio of health services research funding and evaluation activities. Charli's PhD (University of Sheffield) was funded by the NIHR School for Public Health Research and the Yorkshire & Humber ARC. This was a qualitative study of the reproductive-related experiences of women with a history of serious mental illness (SMI), particularly their interactions with the UK healthcare system.
Charli's research interests lie in the use of qualitative methods in public health research, with specific interests in women's health, health equity and mental health.
