A qualitative paper exploring the experiences of women who have life threatening complications in childbirth and need critical care has been published in BMJ Open. The research by Lisa Hinton and Louise Locock from the Health Experiences Research Group, in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences and NPEU's Marian Knight, was conducted as part of the UKNeS programme. The study provides a rare patient perspective of experiences of maternal critical care, which, while rare, can be devastating for mother and baby and makes recommendations for how clinical teams might work to support these women.
