DPhil Student

Yutong Xu started her DPhil in Population Health in October 2025, under the supervision of Professors David Eyre and Sarah Walker. Her research applies advanced machine learning and big data methods to the study of hospital-acquired infections, aiming to identify risk factors, characterise populations at increased risk, and develop early warning models to enhance infection prevention and patient care in healthcare settings.

Prior to her doctoral studies, Yutong completed an MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology at the University of Oxford and a BSc in Data Science and Big Data Technology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, graduating with First Class Honours. Her academic interests lie at the intersection of artificial intelligence, epidemiology, and clinical informatics, with a focus on translating data-driven insights into actionable public health interventions.
