Yani Huang

Postdoctoral Epidemiologist

Yani joined Oxford Population Health in 2025 as a postdoctoral epidemiologist. She works on a Wellcome-funded project that involves applying multi-omics analytic approaches in large-scale biobank data to investigate the role of alcohol consumption in the aetiology of complex diseases across diverse populations.

Her current research focuses on using data from the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) and the UK Biobank (UKB) to identify novel protein biomarkers for alcohol consumption, assess the causal role of alcohol and related biomarkers in a wide range of complex diseases, and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms.

Yani completed her PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Peking Union Medical College in China. Her doctoral research focused on developing proteomic risk scores to predict the incidence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases in the Chinese population. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Health from Capital Medical University, where her thesis involved identifying metabolomic biomarkers for Type 2 Diabetes.

Outside of work, Yani enjoys books, parks, and cats.
