Favour Peters
DPhil Student
Favour joined the China Kadoorie Biobank research group in the Big Data Institute as a DPhil student in Population Health in October 2025, and is affiliated with the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit in Oxford Population Health. She is supervised by Associate Professors Ling Yang, Iona Millwood and Christiana Kartsonaki and funded by the NDPH Studentship.
Favour’s research focuses on investigating the role of chronic infections in lung cancer aetiology, incorporating lifestyle, genetic, and immunological factors, using large-scale cohort data such as the China Kadoorie Biobank and the UK Biobank.
Prior to starting her DPhil in Oxford, Favour completed the MPhil degree in Population Health Sciences at the University of Cambridge on a Mastercard Foundation Scholarship. She also obtained a BSc in Disability and Rehabilitation Studies from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana in 2022.
Following her undergraduate studies, Favour worked at the Ghana Ministry of Health and the Africa Centre for Epidemiology, where she contributed to various research projects on infectious disease control, health promotion, and epidemiological research. Her research interests span across the long-term effects of chronic infections, cancer epidemiology, and the integration of large-scale population data to inform global health policy and disease prevention strategies.
Beyond her research, Favour is actively involved in science communication, academic mentorship, and public health advocacy. She has organised several health promotion programmes and capacity-building initiatives across Ghana. Favour is a Kufuor Scholar and a Yali Fellow.
