In this chapter, we present a unique set of harmonized migration estimates for migration within, into and out of the system of 32 European countries (EU). These estimates are available by origin, destination, age, sex and region of birth, for the 2009-19 period and include a statistical assessment of uncertainty. We start by presenting a short background on past efforts to harmonize migration estimates in Europe and then describe the successive steps of the estimation process, from gathering the required information and meta-information on data collection to estimating the ‘true’ migration flows with their measures of uncertainty by using a Bayesian hierarchical model. We conclude by presenting and discussing the results for selected migration flows.
