Rebecca Shakir

Dr Rebecca Shakir is a clinical oncology consultant at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford and post-doctoral academic visitor at Oxford Population Health. She graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2009 and gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2018.

Rebecca joined the Benefits and Risks of Cancer Treatments team in January 2019 to undertake a dedicated period of research under the supervision of Dr David Cutter, Dr Michele Peters, Dr George Ntentas and Dr Johanna Rankin Ramroth.

Her research focused on determining the benefits and risks of radiotherapy used after chemotherapy for lymphoma, and formulating a tool which can be used to predict these for an individual patient. She was funded by an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship.

Following completion of her DPhil, Rebecca was appointed as a consultant clinical oncologist in 2023. Alongside treating people with cancer, she specialises in the management of people with the long-term side-effects of cancer treatment.

She has recently been part of the team awarded funding from Macmillan to set up an adult radiotherapy late-effects service in Oxford, and she works alongside Dr David Cutter in the well-established paediatric and young adult late-effects service.

In addition to her clinical work, Rebecca is the Sherrington Lecturer at Magdalen College Oxford and a member of the Specialty Training Board at the Royal College of Radiologists.
