Milly Farrell

Engaged Research Lead

Milly joined the Ethox Centre in 2018 and manages the engaged research programme and strategy for Ethox, and for the Wellcome Trust funded platform ANTITHESES. Milly’s role is focused on developing, co-creating and testing a range of methods and activities, which actively involve public groups in the many research strands of these cross-disciplinary projects. This work is done in collaboration with a range of key stakeholders and creative practitioners, with the aim of embedding public and community engagement into our research practice and culture.

Some of the major engagement projects Milly has coordinated during her time at Ethox have involved both co-created arts-based initiatives and the involvement of young people into shaping our research questions on the future of health technologies. Milly is also a Co-I on the INSIGHT project, which investigates ethical best practice in science communication and engagement.

Milly trained in skeletal forensics and began her career as a curator of human and animal remains, working within the museums and heritage sector. Through a range of outreach projects and exhibitions, Milly worked to involve the public in museum collections and research; with a particular focus on disability access, the ethics of display and repatriation.
