Research Facilitator and Clinical Research Fellow
After earning his medical degree from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2015, Dr Samim completed his internal medicine training at the University Hospital of Lausanne, obtaining board certification in 2020. He then pursued cardiology training at the University Hospital of Bern, Switzerland, achieving board certification in 2024, followed by a fellowship in valvular heart disease.
In January 2025, he joined the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU) as a research facilitator and clinical research fellow in the Trial Methods Group. His primary focus is on implementing the NAVIGATE Bicuspid trial, an investigator-initiated, multicenter, international, randomised controlled non-inferiority trial.
The study aims to compare transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) with surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in 1,500 patients with severe bicuspid aortic valve stenosis across 150 sites in the USA, Canada, and Europe. The NAVIGATE Bicuspid trial is an internationally endorsed initiative supported by the Global Cardiovascular Research Funders' Forum (GCRFF) Multinational Clinical Trials Initiative. Professor Peter Jüni (CTSU) is the trial methodologist and one of the principal global investigators.
