Abram Schonfeldt

DPhil student

Abram develops models for wearable sensor data that better measure physical activity for use in population health studies.

His DPhil is supervised by Professor Aiden Doherty (Oxford Population Health) and Associate Professor Ronald Clark (Department of Computer Science).

Abram holds an MSc and BSc in applied mathematics and computer science from the University of Cape Town. His master’s thesis looked at describing the activity of populations of neurons using maximum entropy models.

Abram enjoys trying to model and visualise complex processes, as well as exploring the ethical dimensions of using machine learning, particular in health applications. His free time is occupied by reading, making music - acoustic and electronic - bringing friends together around ambitious meals, and running, climbing or surfing depending on the terrain.
