Acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB) accounts for over 70,000 hospital admissions in the UK annually. Its incidence is likely to rise due to an ageing population and increasing burden of liver disease. Data on the healthcare costs and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) associated with this condition are sparse.
