Susan Jebb is Professor of Diet and Population Health in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. Prior to this, she was a Programme Leader at the Medical Research Council Human Nutrition Research Unit (HNR) in Cambridge. Susan’s work runs across a range of public health nutrition issues, with particular emphasis on the role of dietary factors in the aetiology and treatment of obesity. It includes observational studies on dietary patterns and weight gain, controlled dietary intervention studies and more pragmatic trials of community-based weight management programmes. She has a particular interest in the translation of research into policy and practice. Susan is Chair of the NICE Public Health Advisory Committee and a member of the PHE Obesity Programme Board. She was a science advisor to the Department of Health on obesity and food policy from 2007-2015. She regularly contributes to media features on food or obesity including several BBC documentaries. In 2008, she was awarded an OBE for services to public health, and in 2015, she was awarded the John Maddox Prize for her work on ‘tackling misconceptions about diet in the media and among the public.’
