Communications and Public Engagement Officer
Sophia’s role is to support and guide NDPH researchers to engage relevant members of the general public in the design, conduct and communication of their research with the overall purpose of enhancing the quality, impact and understanding of that research. In addition to coordinating public engagement activities, Sophia acts as the business partner for the Medical Research Council Population Health Unit and the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit.
She joined the department in July 2019, having previously worked on health-related behaviour change communication interventions, including with the BBC’s international development charity BBC Media Action. Her particular interests and experience include using media and communication to improve maternal and child health, and prevent infectious and non-communicable diseases. Prior to this, Sophia worked as a radio journalist and programme producer for a number of years.
