Dr Rebecca Kelly
Rebecca commenced her DPhil in 2019 with the Cancer Epidemiology Unit. She is a Clarendon scholar and a member of Jesus College. Her DPhil project will examine the association between diet and cardiovascular disease, using data from EPIC-Oxford and the UK Biobank. The initial stages of her research will focus on the association between food groups and individual fatty acids, and cardiovascular biomarkers in the UK Biobank. She is co-supervised by Dr Aurora Pérez-Cornago and Professor Tim Key.
Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (University of Tasmania), Bachelor of Medical Science Hons (University of Tasmania) and a Masters of Public Health (University of Tasmania) and has completed an internship at the World Health Organization. Prior to commencing her DPhil Rebecca worked as a clinical doctor whilst completing her Masters dissertation investigating the impacts of a Tasmanian school-based intervention (HealthLit4Kids) on food literacy. Her previous research at the Menzies institute for Medical Research at the University of Tasmania focused on the factors affecting the tracking of blood pressure in the Childhood Determinants of Adult Health study.
Following her DPhil, Rebecca will complete her specialty training in Public Health Medicine. She hopes to work translating epidemiological evidence into effective public health policy and interventions that impact on diet and food systems.
