Visiting Professor

Liam Smeeth is professor of clinical epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He also undertakes clinical work as a general practitioner in north London, and is involved in a range of activities for the NHS more widely. He is a Trustee of the British Heart Foundation and a member of the Steering Committee of UK Biobank.

Much of his research is based on making better use of computerised clinical data both to investigate drug effects and disease aetiology. Other areas of interest are genetic epidemiology and non-communicable diseases in low income settings.  In January 2019 he takes up the post of Dean of the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
