Iman Yassine
Postdoctoral researcher (bacterial epidemiology)
Iman Yassine is a postdoctoral researcher in the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit. Her research applies genomic approaches to study the population structure, bacteriocin diversity, and antimicrobial resistance of pathogens including Moraxella catarrhalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae, with a focus on strengthening global pathogen surveillance and improving public health response.
Before joining Oxford Population Health, Iman completed her PhD in Microbiology under a cotutelle arrangement between Université Paris Cité / Institut Pasteur (France) and the Lebanese University. Her doctoral work explored how whole-genome sequencing and core-genome multilocus sequence typing (cgMLST) can enhance the monitoring and classification of Shigella. She also developed ShigaPass, an in silico tool for Shigella serotyping.
Iman’s research interests focus on combining genomic and epidemiological data to better understand bacterial evolution and population dynamics, supporting more effective approaches to improve infectious disease surveillance.
