Daniel Okpani Iheanacho

MBBS, MPH

Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Officer

Daniel is the Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Officer at Oxford Population Health, where he plays a role in ensuring that patients and the general public are actively involved in health research. His work entails engaging various individuals with lived experience in the entire research process leading to better research outcomes, improved health and increased trust in research.

With a foundation in both clinical practice and community engagement, Daniel’s career spans various roles. Before joining Oxford Population Health, he has worked as a medical officer, diagnosing and managing patients in both private and public hospitals across Nigeria. In addition to his clinical expertise, Daniel served as the project manager for the Healthy and Smart Children Foundation, a non-profit organisation where he utilised his medical knowledge to design and implement health interventions targeted at children in underserved communities. He has also worked with the International Foundation Against Infectious Disease in Nigeria (IFAIN), where he doubled as a research assistant and a medical officer.

Daniel’s dedication to advancing population health led him to pursue an MPH at the University of Derby, building on his medical training in Nigeria. He plans to further his expertise through the UK Public Health Specialty Training. His goal is to combine his medical background with his public health training to improve health outcomes on a larger scale and play a key role in shaping the future of health research and policy.

At Oxford Population Health, Daniel remains committed to enhancing public and patient involvement and engagement, ensuring that their voices are heard and considered at every step of the research process, ultimately leading to more inclusive, effective, and impactful health research.
