Short Course on Prevention Strategies for Non-Communicable Diseases

The CPNP together with the Department for Continuing Education for the University of Oxford has now held five, university accredited, short courses on prevention strategies for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The courses were held in Oxford in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017 and May 2019. We plan to hold future courses. 

The course aims to:

• Increase understanding of NCDs, their risk factors, determinants and prevention
• Improve skills in designing and evaluating prevention strategies
• Provide a forum for sharing knowledge and experience with others

The course is for six consecutive days and is delivered by internationally renowned experts through lectures, fora, group sessions and one-to-one tutorials. The course is aimed at researchers, practitioners, policy makers, postgraduate students and other early career level professionals working in the field of NCDs.  Participants have, to date, come from 36 different countries.

An Introduction to Population-Level Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases, published in 2017 by Oxford University Press, and based on material presented at the course, constitutes the course handbook.

An adapted version of the course was held in Tehran, Iran in November 2017, and there are plans to hold it in other countries around the world.
