Dr Asha Kaur
Asha’s research looks at population diets and the health impact of different marketing techniques. Her research interests include food labelling, nutrient profiling, and population health modelling. Asha is currently working on a project investigating the impact of price promotions on dietary choices and health outcomes. She is also working on the microPRIME project and the BetterBasket project. She also teaches on the NDPH MSc Global Health Science programme (Implementation Strategies Module) and on the Medical Sciences Division Clinical training programme (Introduction to Public Health Module).
Asha worked on the CLYMBOL project which looked at the role of health-related symbols and claims on food labels in consumer behaviour. Asha’s DPhil examined health-related claims on food labels and involved modelling their impact, and the impact of potential regulatory scenarios, on UK population mortality data. Asha also worked on modelling the potential diet, cost and health implications of achieving the Eatwell Guide.
Asha also worked on the FLICC project, the Access To Nutrition Index (ATNI) project, and the CPNP’s Coronary Heart Disease Statistics publications. She’s also been involved in several literature reviews including a Cochrane systematic review update on physical activity interventions and, more recently, a systematic review of the impact of health-related claims on dietary choices.
Asha joined the Centre on Population Approaches for Non-Communicable Disease Prevention in 2007. Before that she worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Oxford's Health Services Research Unit working on a systematic review of forensic mental health outcomes. Asha graduated in 2005 with a BSc in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kent.
