The paper presents data on the externally received doses for radiation workers who used the NRPB's personal monitoring and dose record keeping service throughout 1980. Distributions of annual dose by occupational category and age of worker are given and some models which can be used to describe the data are discussed. There are significant departures from the log-normal distribution which is sometimes assumed.
