Principal Investigator - Ray Fitzpatrick

Ray Fitzpatrick is a Professor of Public Health and Primary Care, based at Nuffield College and Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford.  He is the deputy director of QORU.  QORU aims to improve the evidence on quality and outcomes for long term conditions, and to examine scope for integration across health and social care.

Project Manager - Michele Peters

Michele Peters is a Senior Research Scientist at the Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford.  Michele works on a range of projects developing and using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patients’ and carers’ experiences of health care services.  Michele is experienced in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. 

Research Officers and Interviewers for Living with Long-term Conditions Project:

Laura Kelly

Laura Kelly is a Research Officer at the Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford.  Laura has previous experience of interviewing people with long-term conditions to inform questionnaire development.  She has been involved in developing health-related measures for various purposes, such as evaluating impact of online health websites, measuring activities and participation in people with various health conditions, and measuring health-related quality of life for people with neurological damage to their spinal cord using intermittent self-catheterisation.

Louise Geneen

Louise Geneen is a Research Officer currently working on the Long Term Conditions Questionnaire.  She joined Oxford University in August 2015, prior to which she worked at Dundee University studying Chronic Pain, and completed her PhD in Edinburgh examining exercise interventions for people with Chronic Kidney Disease.

Caroline Potter

Caroline Potter is a Research Officer at the Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford. As a medical anthropologist Caroline has experience of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Informed by her role as deputy director of a multidisciplinary research unit on obesity (www.oxfordobesity.org), Caroline is especially interested in how people experience health and illness in particular cultural settings and across the life course.

Angela Coulter is a health policy analyst and researcher who specialises in patient and public involvement in healthcare. In addition to her part-time role in the Nuffield Department of Population Health, she is Director of Global Initiatives at the Informed Medical Decisions Foundation, Boston, a Senior Visiting Fellow at the King’s Fund in London, a Trustee and Board Member of National Voices, and she holds Honorary Fellowships at the UK Faculty of Public Health and the Royal College of General Practitioners.  Angela is an expert on patient and public engagement in health care and health policy.

Julien Forder

Julien Forder is Professor of the Economics of Social Policy and Director of Personal Services Social Research Unit (PSSRU) at the University of Kent and a Principal Research Fellow at the London School of Economics.  He is the Director of QORU.  QORU aims to improve the evidence on quality and outcomes for long term conditions, and to examine scope for integration across health and social care.  Julien has been involved in the development and testing of the Adult Social Care Outcomes Toolkit (ASCOT). 

Crispin Jenkinson

Crispin Jenkinson is Professor of Health Services Research in the Nuffield Department of Population Health at Oxford University, and a Senior Research Fellow of Harris Manchester College.  He is also Head of the Health Services Research Unit, where this research is based.  He has extensive experience of developing and validating outcome measures for a variety of long-term conditions, including a Parkinson’s Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39).  Crispin is also involved in clinical trials that use Patient-Reported Outcome Measures as study outcome measures.

Elizabeth Gibbons

Elizabeth Gibbons is a Senior Research Scientist in the Health Services Research Unit in the Nuffield Department of Population Health at Oxford University.  She has produced several reports of structured reviews of PROMs for different populations and health conditions. Previous research includes developing and evaluating a questionnaire to capture patient experience and outcomes (the Outcomes and Experience Questionnaire - OEQ) and qualitative interviews with stakeholders about their perceptions and views of implementing PROMs in people with Long-term conditions. She is involved in a national pilot of PROMs in the NHS for people undergoing elective cardiovascular revascularisation procedures.  She is currently working with School of Health and Related Research, University of Sheffield evaluating the feasibility of PROMs in people with depression in secondary care.  As part of the Oxford CLAHRC, she is also working on the implementation and evaluation of PROMs and Patient-reported Experience Measures (PREMs) in clinical practice.

Anne-Marie Towers

Ann-Marie Towers is a Research Fellow at the Personal Services Social Research Unit (PSSRU) at the University of Kent. She is also a member of the Quality and Outcomes of person centred care (QORU) policy research unit and Fellow of the School for Social Care Research (SSCR). 

Laurie Batchelder

Laurie Batchelder is a Research Officer at the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at the University of Kent. She is also a member of QORU. Laurie has experience developing and validating questionnaires using quantitative research methods and modelling techniques. She also has extensive experience working with both children and adults with autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities. Laurie is interested in understanding social motivations and empathy and how these components relate in measuring outcomes for individuals with long-term conditions.

Diane Fox

Diane Fox is a Research Officer at the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at the University of Kent and a Fellow of the School for Social Care Research (SSCR). She has experience developing the questionnaire for the Personal Social Services Survey of Adult Carers in England (PSS SACE) which is a national survey of the family carers of people using social care services. She was also part of a team which developed the social care-related quality of life outcome measure for carers (Carer SCRQoL), a performance indicator which has formed part of the Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework (ASCOF) since 2011.

Jennifer Bostock

Jennifer Bostock is a Research Advisor on the Living with Long-term Conditions Project.  She is also a member of the QORU Public Involvement and Implementation Group. 

Matthew Baker
