Rui joined the Clinical Trials Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU) in October 2021 as a DPhil student in Population Health. She focuses upon investigating the association between adiposity and infectious diseases using the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) and UK Biobank (UKB). Her work will also include biomarker detection and risk predictive model building. She is co-supervised by Dr Fiona Bragg, Dr Christiana Kartsonaki and Professor Zhengming Chen. 

Prior to joining the department, Rui worked in the medical analytics team at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals where she analysed clinical data, developed data visualization tools, and applied machine learning models to support medical publications and innovations. Rui graduated with an MCs in Biostatistics from Columbia University in the U.S. in 2020 and a BSc in Biological Sciences (Poling Class) from Nankai University in China in 2018.
