Owen Thomas

DPhil Student

I started my DPhil in Population Health in October 2020 with both the Ethox Centre and the Centre on Population Approaches for Non-Communicable Disease Prevention. Before joining the NDPH I completed a MSc in Global Governance and Ethics from UCL and a BA (Hons) in Politics and International Relations from Lancaster University.

My research centres on the role of governments in changing behaviours through public health policy in the context of non-communicable diseases. This work mainly focuses on the philosophical and ethical concept of perfectionism, how it justifies and relates to the implementation of agency-affecting policies, as well as its relation to justice and fairness. This DPhil is supervised by Dr Mike Rayner and Dr Mark Sheehan.
